The importance of a Diverse Family
My Family Shaped My Worldview
To me, family is everything. Although my parents divorced when I was young, this situation opened doors to a wider, more diverse circle of loved ones, including those who aren’t related to me by blood. Whether I’m spending time with nearby relatives or on a FaceTime call with family in Australia, their constant support fills my life with immense love and happiness. I deeply value and love each member, as their presence and guidance have not only shaped my identity but also broadened my understanding of different cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs. I feel incredibly lucky to have such a large, caring and diverse family in my life.

My Mom has always been my biggest supporter throughout my entire life! She is my biggest role model and I hope I can create a life for my family just as she did!
Over the summer, my family and I were at Pinehurst in North Carolina, where my Step-dad, Bussy, worked as a golf caddie. North Carolina is also coincidentally where my mom is originally from as well as where my Grandma went to college!
My Dad has always been a huge hockey fan and has played his whole life, continuing to play even today! My Step-sister, Syd, became interested in the sport because of him, so growing up, I spent lots of time in hockey rinks cheering on either Syd or my Dad.
When my Mom, Step-dad and I travel to Australia, it is always so nice to reconnect with the family and enjoy time together. Normally, we aren’t able to visit very often, so this was extra special being able to spend a couple weeks with them
My Aunt and Uncle have always been such a joy to have in my life! They are both equally adventurous and love to travel! This photo was taken at a magic show my mom and I went to with my Uncle and Aunt while we visited them in Nevada.
My Chosen Family
Of course, my family includes my friends. Since the majority of my family lives so far away, the fact that I can rely upon my friends makes me feel like I have family living next door. My friends make me feel more connected, and I love all the places we’ve been together!
During last summer, some of my friends and I were lucky enough to be a part of Camp Fox, a camp on Catalina Island for one week. While we were there, we did shaving cream relay races, archery, rock climbing, snorkeling and even did the Big Swing!
Spring Break in Mexico with my friends Sienna and Sam!
One of my favorite camps I have been to is the UCLA gymnastics camp!
Not only have I made some life-long friends throughout high school, I have kept friends since I was 3! I have loved growing up with their families, and consider them and their siblings to be the brothers and sisters I never had!
